The trend of international risk diversification

    Get PDF
The goal of this paper is to analyse the international diversification of risk through portfolio diversification based on investments abroad, particularly by investing in currencies of emerging countries. The starting point of the analysis is the work of Harry Markowitz, Portfolio selection, a reference work for the global financial environment in which the author states that a portfolio is efficient if it provides the highest possible expected return for a given level of risk and the lowest possible level of risk for any expected rate of earnings. The information used for this study comes from numerous sources and of great importance to international financial markets. The results based on the used data and information provide a comprehensive scan of how Federal Reserve proposed a clustered index of currencies, the current trend of exchange, the emerging BRIC countries scenario for 2050 and sources of the volatile emerging markets. Thus, following the completion of this work, we consider it necessary to pay attention to the course of emerging markets whose economic development and openness plays a significant role in their penetration of international investors’ investment plan

Background. Communication with patients is a problem in the healthcare system globally due to potential factors such as high workload, heavy care tasks, fast speech rate, and some patient health problems such as mental, auditory and visual disorders. Objective of the study. The promotion of assertive and effective communication skills from nurses to patients within medical care to create physical and mental comfort and increase the well-being of patients. Material and methods. The present study is secondary research. The search for scientific articles was carried out in the databases PubMed and Mendeley. The search period included the years 2018 - 2022. The following filters were considered: free full text, meta-analysis, randomized controlled trial, clinical trial, considering publications in English. Results. For the provision of professional healthcare services, communication skills are a primary requirement, as they enable a thorough understanding of patients, solving complicated problems, reasonable and logical analysis of situations arising during care. The way in which care professionals communicate with patients greatly influences the therapeutic relationship. Essential communication skills for nurses are the following: giving more time to patients; active listening; accepting and understanding emotions; and creating an atmosphere of calm. These applied skills increase patients’ confidence and help them take important steps in changing their lifestyle, essential in managing their health problems. Conclusions. The need to improve communication in healthcare systems is well known worldwide, as it has positive outcomes for both patient and nurse well-being by increasing job satisfaction

THADA regulates the organismal balance between energy storage and heat production

Human susceptibility to obesity is mainly genetic, yet the underlying evolutionary drivers causing variation from person to person are not clear. One theory rationalizes that populations that have adapted to warmer climates have reduced their metabolic rates, thereby increasing their propensity to store energy. We uncover here the function of a gene that supports this theory. THADA is one of the genes most strongly selected during evolution as humans settled in different climates. We report here that THADA knockout flies are obese, hyperphagic, have reduced energy production, and are sensitive to the cold. THADA binds the sarco/ER Ca2+ ATPase (SERCA) and acts on it as an uncoupler. Reducing SERCA activity in THADA mutant flies rescues their obesity, pinpointing SERCA as a key effector of THADA function. In sum, this identifies THADA as a regulator of the balance between energy consumption and energy storage, which was selected during human evolution

Using Machine Learning on Sensor Data

Extracting useful information from raw sensor data requires specific methods and algorithms. We describe a vertical system integration of a sensor node and a toolkit of machine learning algorithms for predicting the number of persons located in a closed space. The dataset used as input for the learning algorithms is composed of automatically collected sensor data and additional manually introduced data. We analyze the dataset and evaluate the performance of two types ofmachine learning algorithms on this dataset: classification and regression. With our system settings, the experiments show that augmenting sensor data with proper information can improve prediction results and also the classification algorithm performed better

Disciplina Cardiologie, Clinica Medicală nr.3, Departamentul Medicină Internă, USMF „Nicolae Testemiţanu”Ischemic heart disease is the most common cardiac pathology. Angina pectoris (AP) "de novo" is a form of unstable AP, a clinical expression of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), which is characterized by constrictive retrosternal pain at rest or on exercise, occurring less than 30 days. AP "de novo" may evolve, depending on the structure of atherosclerotic plaque in two directions: stable AP or acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We present the clinical case of a 61 years old man with no history of ischemic heart disease, which developed an acute coronary syndrome without ST segment elevation as the result of angina pectoris "de novo".
